We have a full time school nurse who coordinates care for students with special medical considerations, dispenses medicine as needed, cares for sick or injured students at school and promotes healthy habits in the building.
At SMKCS students are encouraged to be “Healthy Hawks!” Recognizing its importance in physical, social, and mental health, middle school students participate in daily recess, and elementary students partake in recess twice daily. Healthy habits are implemented throughout the school day as teachers lead their students in yoga, movement breaks, and other mental wellness activities. All school students participate in weekly physical education classes that challenge those who are athletically gifted and provide a safe space for those with less experience. Students develop basic locomotor, non-locomotor, and manipulative movements and integrate these skills in a variety of individual and team sports in a fun and structured format. The school has developed a wellness plan and participates in the national school lunch program.
