We are proud to offer a variety of school clubs at SMKCS. Offerings may vary based on interest, availability, and demand and from year to year.
Robotics Club: Open to students in grades 4-5, the robotics club weekly on Fridays in Assumption Hall to design, build, and test robots. Club runs from fall break to spring break.
Engineering Club: Open to students in grades 6-8 and led by Mr. Hogan, club members meet weekly in the science lab before school begins to complete engineering challenges. Club runs August - October.
Academic Olympics: Open to students in grades 6-8 and led by Mr. Lozon, club members meet weekly in Rm. 32 before school begins to practice quick recall skills. The top five students in each grade level are invited to form a team and represent SMK in the deanery Academic Bowl held in February. Club runs December - February.
Drama Club: Open to students in grades 6-8 and led by Ms. Popson and Mrs. Foster, club members meet weekly after school in the fall to rehearse for a full-length musical to be performed in November. Club runs August - November with auditions to be held in May.
Choir: Open to students in grades 6-8 and led by Stephen Fernung, our liturgical music coordinator, club members meet one morning a week in Assumption Hall to practice liturgical hymns. They lead the singing at all school Masses.
National Junior Honor Society: The purpose of the SMK chapter is to create an enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote worthy leadership, and to encourage the development of character and citizenship. Students in the seventh and eighth grade that meet the following requirements may complete the application for consideration.
Candidates eligible for selection to the chapter must be members of the seventh or eighth grade class.
To be eligible for selection to membership in this chapter, the candidate must have been enrolled for a period equivalent to two consecutive semesters at St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic School.
Candidates eligible for selection to the chapter shall have a minimum cumulative GPA eligibility of 3.6 in the prior two semesters.
Upon meeting the grade level, enrollment, and GPA standards, candidates shall then be considered based on their service, leadership, character, and citizenship
The applications of all eligible students are reviewed by the board and an induction ceremony takes place during the first quarter of school. National Junior Honor Society members complete individual and group service projects throughout the year and serve as leaders and role models in the school.
