We partner with St. Elizabeth Catholic Charities and their school counseling program, which has continued to grow and expand over the last few years. Michelle Frossard is currently the School
Counseling Director. She is also contracted to be at SMK three days a week to support our team, students and families. The school counseling program offers each child social, emotional and academic support in a variety of ways. This includes collaboration and consultation with
teachers, caregivers and staff, individual counseling, as needed, classroom guidance
lessons and small group lessons.
Students in K-8th grade participate in a social-emotional learning program, using Friendzy and other SEL resources. This program promotes growth opportunities in self-awareness, self-management, responsible decision-making, social awareness, and relationship skills. These classes are facilitated weekly by our school counselor with the entire school working on core competency each month through a common catchphrase with a biblical root, building resiliency and focus. The school counselor educates parents at the start of the month in an in-person session to introduce the skills and goals, discuss challenges, and answer questions. Resources are shared via school newsletters. Additionally, the values from The Leader in Me program are incorporated into middle school, further strengthening school culture, academics, and leadership. We truly believe it is key to keep the caregivers informed on strategies discussed so that we can partner together in practicing new skills.
